Robert Woods says Todd Gurley will break LT’s single-season TD record

Todd Gurley had a historic season in 2017, gaining 2,093 yards from scrimmage and finding the end zone 19 times. He came close to taking NFL MVP over Tom Brady, instead winning Offensive Player of the Year.

As good as he was last season, he’s been even better through six weeks in 2018. He leads the league in rushing (623 yards), carries (129), rushing touchdowns (9), yards from scrimmage (870) and total touchdowns (11). Needless to say, he’s the front-runner to win Offensive Player of the Year again, but that may not be all he wins.

Robert Woods believes Gurley could hold the single-season touchdown record by year’s end. That record, of course, is held by LaDainian Tomlinson as he scored 28 touchdowns in 2006.

Woods said as much on NFL Total Access during a segment called “Hot Take Tuesday.”

“I’m going to say Todd breaks LT’s record for the rushing touchdowns in a single season,” Woods said. “I believe it was 28. Gurley is hot. Gurley is hot.”

With Gurley possibly scoring all these touchdowns, that’ll leave fewer for everyone else. Woods, not surprisingly, won’t care if Gurley gets all the glory in the end zone. He’s an unselfish player.

“We’re a complete team. We’re attacking in the pass, we’re attacking on the ground,” he added. “But we’re finishing with our beast. We’re finishing with Gurley. Gurley spiking it in the end zone and we’re going to celebrate as a team.”

Gurley said himself that he wants to break the record, sending a message to Tomlinson after the Rams’ win Sunday: “I’m coming for you, LT.”

He’s currently on pace for 24 rushing touchdowns and 29 total scores, which puts him four shy of the rushing record and just two shy of the overall mark set by LT with 31. He’ll need to score even more than he already has been if he wants to catch Tomlinson.
